PROCESS      DESCRIPTION
M14Provide Resources

The general approach will be to pro-actively define maintenance jobs as far as possible, as part of the formal maintenance strategy development process. The definition of such jobs will include an accurate assessment of resources required, including parts, labour, tools and special equipment, workshop facilities / bays, outside work, and downtime (occupations / permits). Based on the short-term maintenance plan and resource requirements estimates, the role of supervisor, supported by the planner, will ensure that there is full visibility of resources required in the short term.

The short-term resource requirements will be assessed in the light of lead times, current availability, outstanding orders and promised delivery dates, and the necessary arrangements will be made to ensure resource availability when the individual jobs are started.

All parts intended for maintenance purposes (not including rotables) will be recorded on a centralised “master parts list”. Each item on the master parts list will be tagged with a “reclamation indicator”. For each such item tagged as reclaimable, a reclamation strategy will exist.

The general rule in this regard is that the non-availability of resources for maintenance purposes is not tolerated. Therefore, the processes of maintenance strategy development, job definition, long-, medium- and short-term planning are all aligned to make the future workload and associated resource requirements visible.

The commercial system will be integrated with the maintenance administration system such that the processes of requisitioning / purchasing resources is automated, and that the “status” of resources in terms of availability / promised delivery dates / non-availability is clearly visible.

Specific roles will be tasked with the responsibility of organising / monitoring / communicating the status as discussed above, for purposes of reliable and purposeful maintenance planning.
